You will attend GIDA, GIFA and GILA as full time students and will join homestay communities selected for the Academic Year in China program have schools of excellent academic quality that provide a valuable educational experience.
GIDA, GIFA and GILA offer short period or long period Chinese language training or Academic Years an interdisciplinary approach to education, which means that students take a variety of courses in language, dance history, geography, literature and science. GIDA, GIFA and GILA provide copies of your transcripts to your school before you arrive. When finished, you can receive an official transcript listing courses you took and the grades you received.
Academic Year in China students are expected to carry full course loads and participate in school as any Chinese student. Schools operate on various academic schedules, and course lengths may vary. Examples of some schedules are semester, block system, trimester and full year. With Academic Year in China, you visit China for an entire academic year (10 months) or a semester (five months).

Your Classes:
GIDA, GIFA and GILA monitor your program performance and quarterly grades. You are subject to the same academic and social rules as Chinese students in the academy. Teachers and guidance counselors are asked to contact your and host family immediately if problems arise.
To remain in good standing in the program, a student must enroll in an appropriate Chinese language or literature course and a Chinese Studies course, and maintain or better average in all classes;

This tuition covers teaching, books and tapes, housing, orientation, and excursions and cultural activities. It does not cover airfare, visa fees, accident/medical insurance, some meals, housing during the 4-weeks travel break, and personal expenses. This listing is intended to summarize possible charges that could be incurred against a students account. Certain charges are dependent upon specific circumstances, as noted.

Transcripts
Students must request transcripts before they leave the China. In some cases, GIDA, GIFA and GILA may award you a certificate of attendance, or a diploma if you have completed all the necessary courses for graduation (and if they decide to accept courses you took in your home country school toward your diploma). The GIDA, GIFA and GILA program can guarantee a certificated or diploma or graduation in which depend on you join GIDA, GIFA and GILA program.
Your Chinese Host Family
GIDA, GIFA and GILA host families are volunteers. They are not paid for hosting GIDA, GIFA and GILA foreign exchange students.
GIDA, GIFA and GILA carefully select host families based on their desire to host a visiting student and ability to provide a safe, comfortable home and positive cultural experience for you in the China. People of all ages and from all walks of life volunteer to serve as host families. Your host family will expect you to join in family activities. They will expect you to share the privileges and responsibilities of being a family member. This includes doing your share of chores around the house.
Your host family will want to learn about your country and will want to help you understand life in China. They will be eager to answer your questions and explain things to you when you dont understand. Above all, they want to open their hearts and share their homes with you.
Host families are responsible for
1. Providing you with a home for the academic years or semester or short period
2. Welcoming you as a member of the family and encouraging you to participate
in all aspect of family life
3. Providing you with your own bed and place to study, either in a room you share
with a family member of the same sex and age range, or your own room
4. Providing you with meals (except lunch on GIDA, GIFA and GILA days)
5. Encouraging the exchange of ideas and providing you with exposure to the
cultural and social environment of the home and neighborhood
6. Providing the love and understanding a young person needs to enjoy a
successful stay in China
Your GIDA, GIFA and GILA Coordinator
Each GIDA, GIFA and GILA student has a Coordinator who can answer questions or help solve a problem and be a friend. GIDA, GIFA and GILA Coordinators may also arrange activities, trips and cultural events. GIDA, GIFA and GILA Coordinators serve as community representatives for the academic years or semester or short period in Chinese program.
GIDA, GIFA and GILA Coordinators are responsible for:
1. Screening, interviewing and selecting your host family
2. Providing your host family with a pre-arrival orientation
3. Liaising with the GIDA, GIFA and GILA.
4. Supervising and supporting you and your family and visiting you monthly
5. Submitting monthly reports about your progress to GIDA, GIFA and GILA office
6. Providing emergency assistance to you and your family, should it ever be required
GIDA, GIFA and GILA Coordinators receive ongoing instruction and direction from the academic years or semester or short period in Chinese program and attend annual training sessions. Coordinators are but one part of the network of support GIDA, GIFA and GILA students enjoy
